So, my daughter is now 3 weeks old, and I can't believe it! Time is already flying by! I thought I'd better blog about this soon for myself, before I forget it all!
Our little Madelyn was born Monday June 8, 2009 at 6:00pm. Everything went really well. I went to my regular 38-week check-up at 10:00 that morning and found out that I was dilated to a 5, and 50% effaced. So, the midwife called the hospital to see if she could send me over there then to be induced. I was scheduled to be induced just 7 days later, but due to the fact that I have quick labors when I'm not dilating, she said I should just head over then. So, I called Brian and told him to meet me at the house so I could drop off my van to my sister Heather (who just happen to be out here from Colorado, and was leaving the next morning) so she could pick up my kids from school. We got everything sorted out, and headed to the hospital, getting there around 11:30am. Well, before my midwife could come and check me, she had a woman come in in labor, and delivered the baby. So, we just had to wait around until 2:00pm when she checked me and found that I was a 6, but that the baby was still very high, and she didn't want to break my water yet, so she put me on pitocine to see if that would help get the contractions going and bring her down. Well, I started having regular contractions, but they weren't really painful, and I was getting frustrated thinking that nothing was happening and we were still waiting around. She came back at 4:00pm, after delivering another baby and found that I was at an 8, but still baby hadn't dropped! I was shocked, first off I've NEVER dilated that far with out pain, nor have I not had the baby come down! So, I bounced on a 'birthing ball' for an hour trying to get her to drop. At 5:00pm she checked me again, and I was at a 10, still baby hadn't come down all the way, but enough that the midwife felt comfortable breaking my water. Once that happened I definitely felt the PAIN, and she started moving down! She was born at 6:00 even! That is the last natural labor I want to go through! She is such a sweet thing though, and wasn't even crying when she came out, just looking around. Brian was worried, and happy that she cried once the nurse put drops in her eyes.
She has a head full of hair, and weighed 8 lbs 11oz. & 21 in. long.
Brian said they were all up and ready for school by 7:30am-what motivation (we are usually racing to get out the door by 8:40am). So, they got to come and hold her. I had to call Brian that morning to let him know that her name had changed. Originally we had decided to name her Peyton. Well, I tried calling her that the night before, and it just didn't seem to fit, I also tried Shannon, & Ella, but neither of those seemed to fit her either. Finally I tried Madelyn, and it felt right, so I called to have Brian tell the kids before they came that they were coming to see Madelyn, not Peyton.
After deciding to name her Madelyn, we then couldn't agree upon how to spell it. Back and forth between Madilyn and Madelyn, the second one won out. She is such a sweet little thing!
Madelyn is certainly NOT without people willing to hold her, in fact they are still lining up, and frustrated that I seem to be monopolizing the poor child! Here's big brother Duncan holding her:
My side of the family has a weird genetic trait of webbed toes. My father has it, I have it, a few of my kids have it, but Madelyn by far has it the most! It is always these two toes, usually worse on the left foot. I hope she likes the water, we are all expecting great swimming abilities!
Ashlyn has had a rough ride with the arrival of her 'baby replacement', but she is improving....we are down to hitting the baby only 3 times a day. She loves her....she wants her to leave...she wants to hold her...she wants to hit her....its tough to be Ashlyn right now! When she is loving her it is so cute though!
Here is Madelyn and I the day we came home. Brian ordered a 'Card in the Yard' to welcome us home. The front yard was full of 'It's a girl" signs and such, it was very cute!
It took me 3 weeks to get this posted, hopefully I will get some updated photos and such on here sooner......but no promises. These days I don't promise to do anything except feed the baby, watch the other children, and point them in the direction of food every now and then! :)
