November Homeschool Highlights

Some highlights from our homeschooling in November...
Thanksgiving crafts.

Volunteering at the Horse Farm.

Duncan helping Morgan with her math.
I love that she thinks its cool that her little brother is ahead of her in math.

Learning about solutions in Science.

And hot air!

Obstacle course for PE.

Duncan tried out the drums for the pipe band.
He decided to just stick with learning the bagpipes.

Creating King Charlemagne's crown.

These guys love anything to do with art!
If we add art into history, they will remember it forever!

We took off the week of Thanksgiving.
It's been a fun & full November!

Backyard Battle!

Before we set out all 95 leaf bags for the yard waste recycle to pick up, the kids had a great idea of building fortresses with them in the back yard.

And then having a great battle against each other!
Ronan built around the playset, and was 'England'.

Morgan & Hayden built around our 'teepee', and fought for Ireland.

And Duncan and the two little girls fortified themselves under the deck, and fought for Scotland's independence!

It was a great epic battle of the British Isles!

I stood on the deck, and had a great view of it all.

I loved how into it they all were!
It's great when there's an imaginative game that all 6, ranging in age from 5-16yrs. can play together!
I love that they love to play.
I love that they love to build.
I love that their play involves history/geography.
I love that they can do this in the middle of a school day.

May the best country win!

SHARP End of Session Fair!

Our Fall Session for SHARP Co-op ended in before Thanksgiving.
And the last day of Co-op was a Fair. Where each class got to showcase what they had been learning over the past 10 weeks.
I taught the 'Knights and Castles' class to 5-10 year olds.
We built castles, coats of arms, catapults, stain glass, and tons of other stuff!
It was a really fun class to teach!

Hayden & Ronan took a High School level Medieval History class.
It was great, covering not just Europe in the Middle Ages, but other parts of the world too!
Hayden & Ted built a model of the Tower of London for class.
(below)

Ashlyn & Madelyn took 'My Amazing Body' which they loved!
Such a great class all about the human body!

Madelyn took 'The Art of Science'.
Such a fun class with great art projects that went along with each science topic.

Ronan & Morgan both took 'Cake Decorating'.
Although I think Ronan was in it more for the 'eating' than the decorating.
Morgan's cake.

Ronan's cake.

The 'Ready, Aim, Fire' class was all about building weapons with household items.
(Morgan & Ronan both enjoyed this class)

'Cultural Anthropology' class-Hayden attended this one as well.

'Math is a Game' class! Duncan took this and LOVED it!

During the Fair, there were some fun 'stations' set up as well.
A paper airplane creation station.

Cup stacking!

Art on display...
Morgan brought some of her artwork.

Hayden was happy to wear his kilt while talking about his Medieval History class.
He loves any opportunity to wear it.

There was a 'Guess How Many?' jar full of Legos....
and Madelyn won it!
(She might of had a little help from mom)

The second half of our Fair was a showcase for the classes/and a talent show too!
Ashlyn showing some Yoga positions with her teacher.
Both her and Madelyn took this class and had such a blast!

The ASL class signing 'Let it Go'

'Creative Movement & Dance' class performing for us.
So cute!

Morgan performed in the talent show portion by playing the piano for us.

We have had such a wonderful time learning in our Co-op!
We will miss seeing our friends every Monday morning....until spring Session!

Turkey Trot!

This school year we joined 8 homeschool families in the area and formed a weekly PE Group.
Between the 8 families, there is 22 kids, and it has worked so wonderfully.
We decided to take December off, and then with 8 months of the school year left, and 8 families-each is in charge of planning our weekly PE activity for a month.

I was in charge of November.
We planned a bike ride, an obstacle course, and (per Duncan's request) a Turkey Trot!
Since leaving public school behind, there has only been one thing that Duncan has missed.
The Turkey Trot.
So, we had our own-and he was a happy guy!
We split up and had the 7 & older kids run one route.

And the 6 & under's run their own...
They were so cute!
We were missing 3 families that day, but we still had a great time!
I love to watch these little ones having so much fun together.

And Duncan won the Turkey Trot!

It was really the most perfect fall day for a run!
Ashlyn and Morgan finished together, holding hands.

And since it WAS a TURKEY Trot, we had to have a turkey prize!
(So said Duncan)
So, everyone who ran, got a little turkey treat.
GREAT PE Activity!
